St. Vincent de Paul Society

Our Lady's St. Vincent de Paul Society helps the needy of our parish through our food pantry, clothing drives, and the annual Christmas Giving Tree.
The St Vincent de Paul Society (Société Saint Vincent de Paul) was created in France in 1833 by Frédéric Ozanam to help poor people living in the slums of Paris. The Society is part of the VIncentian family, which includes amnog others two orders formed by St VIncent de Paul himself for the service of the poor. The American branch of the society was created in 1845 in St Louis, MS. The Society has 800,000 members in 140 countries around the world.
The third Sunday of every month is designated as Food Pantry Sunday and parishioners are asked to donate non-perishable food items that is donated to needy families in our parish and throughout Waltham. The food pqntry effort was initiated by Father Blackwood and Deacon Bill McKenzie (pastor and deacon at Our Lady's Parish in the 1990s).

The first Tuesday every other month a group of volunteers from Our Lady's Parish helps to serve dinner at the Bristol Lodge soup kitchen, in the basement of the Immanuel United Methodist Church on Moody St. The Our Lady's group began this ongoing outreach ministry in 2014, continuing it in 2015, and on January 12, 2016, we will meet to discuss our plans and schedule for 2016.

Our Lady's volunteers brought Christmas gifts (which were wrapped by students in the After-School program at Our Lady's Academy) to share with the guests at the Bristol Lodge Soup Kitchen when they served dinner in December 2014.
Eucharist Ministers who bring the Holy Sacrament to elderly and shut-in parishioners in their homes or at area facilities, such as the Meadow Green Nursing Home and Waltham Crossings Assisted Living.

OLCA Activities Committee
In addition to many social events hosted by the OLCA Activities Committee each year, they also organize volunteers to provide services to the Waltham/Lexington community, veterans, and active duty military.
Our Religious Education program provides faith formation for the children of our parish. Integral to this are opportunities for children to give of themselves through volunteering at parish events and local agencies, such as the Mittens for Children drive to benefit the Bristol Lodge, the Salvation Army, and children in a local family shelter for Christmas 2014.
