Cross Currents
What it is: CrossCurrents is the weekly Faith-Formation Opinion Piece designed for parish websites. It is a Catholic reflection on faith in our times. Written by Bernie Swain, Ph.D., it will be a weekly feature on our website.
About the author: Dr. Swain has, in more than 30 years of pastoral ministry, served as DRE in Washington and Boston; led parish missions; taught every level from kindergarten kids to doctoral students; provided consultation and training for more than 100 parishes, ten national ministry associations and a dozen dioceses; edited a diocesan newspaper. He holds degrees in political science at Holy Cross and the University of Paris, a master’s in theology at Harvard under Bernard Lonergan and Edward Schillebeeckx, and a doctorate under David Tracy at the University of Chicago.
More than 200 of his articles have been published in Commonweal and Liturgy magazines, Harvard Theological Review, National Catholic Reporter, Miami Herald, Philadelphia Inquirer, Catholic Free Press, Église des Hauts de Seine, and Laywitness. His book Liberating Leadership analyzed collaborative ministry. His column CrossCurrents now appears weekly on parish websites.
